Functional Ceramics
2013-2015
I began to gravitate toward ceramics looking for a deeper connection with art. Instead of only visually admiring a work in front of me I wanted to experience it, to touch it, to hold it in my hands, and to feel the texture of the surface on my fingertips. With pottery I did not have to use a pencil or a brush to express myself. Rather, my hands became the tool necessary to create the work.
Today I strive to create artwork that exhibits an effective balance between form and function, where neither aspect overshadows the other but works in perfect harmony. I believe there is great beauty in the simplicity of form. The enjoyment in creating my work comes from pairing simplistic forms with feminine curves or edges. Each piece is then finished with careful consideration of a glaze application that will further enhance the overall form.
